Tap into Adelaide's solar potential
Adelaide has some of the best solar resources in the world – and we’ve only tapped into a fraction of the total potential.
Adelaide, and the majority of South Australia, receives an average of at least 7 hours of sunshine per day. That’s hours and hours of sunlight every day that can be captured by solar panels on your roof, converted into clean, green electricity and used to power your home, reducing your reliance on the electricity grid and saving you thousands on your energy bills.
At today’s standard energy rates, an average South Australian household can save at least $20,000 on their energy bills over the life of their solar system, if not more.
Of course, the amount you could save depends on your unique circumstances, including your current daily energy usage, sunshine hours, and your energy goals.
Read our blog, How many solar panels do I need? and learn about how you can make the best decision for maximum savings.

South Australian Solar Incentives
There are a few Government incentives and rebates on offer within South Australia to help reduce the upfront cost of your solar power or battery storage system, so you can save even more.
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme is run by the Australian government, and encourages investment in renewable energy by offering financial incentives for people and small businesses to install solar panels. Eligible solar panel systems under 100kW in size are issued with small-scale technology certificates, or STCs. These STCs can be redeemed for a dollar value at the point of sale, effectively reducing the upfront cost of your solar panel system.
A solar feed-in tariff is a payment that your electricity retailer will pay you for each kilowatt hour of solar energy that you supply back to the grid.
This might happen if you generate solar energy during the day when you aren’t home; if the energy isn’t used or stored in a solar battery, it will be fed back into the electricity grid.
The solar feed-in tariff varies from retailer to retailer, but in South Australia it generally falls between 10 and 20 cents per kWh. This feed-in tariff can provide a small extra benefit on top of your standard solar energy savings to help you save thousands of dollars on your energy bills over the life of your system. If you find you are sending a large amount of solar energy to the grid, you could be accessing even more benefits by installing a battery to complement your solar panels.
Read our blog Could you be saving more with your solar? to learn more about how the feed-in tariff works, and if battery storage could save you even more.
Under the South Australian Government Home Battery Scheme, South Australian households can receive a subsidy of up to $6,000 to reduce the upfront costs of battery installation.
The scheme is available for nearly all South Australian households, but is capped to 40,000 installations and the Government expects the subsidies to reduce over time. On top of the generous subsidies, households will also be able to apply for finance through RateSetter to help them pay for the balance of the battery and any new or additional solar your home needs.
To be eligible for the subsidy, you must hire a Qualified System Provider to supply and install your home battery system. ZEN Energy is a Qualified System Provider and can help confirm your eligibility for a subsidy today.

Bill Waterhouse - ZEN Energy Customer
When Bill Waterhouse first started researching options for an Adelaide-based solar company, he found it difficult to isolate which company he could trust.
“I was looking through publications in the Sunday Mail and publications where they have all the different deals on offer, I looked at them and all they did was confuse me… But when I spoke to ZEN, it started to paint a picture that I’d be getting a very reliable, very professional outcome.”
Since having his ZEN Premium solar system installed, Bill and his family are reaping the benefits and achieving their goals of reducing their bills while helping the environment.
“We use quite a lot of power on the swimming pool, dryer and things like that, so my running costs during the day have been significantly reduced which is great and my quarterly bills are definitely down.”
