The Chinchilla Solar Farm site is located 140 km north west of Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia near the township of Chinchilla. The site is approximately 16 km north east of Chinchilla, on the existing 132 kV Tarong Chinchilla overhead transmission line.
Approximately 250,000 First Solar thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules power the 100 megawatt (MW) project and produces enough solar energy to serve the needs of approximately 40,000 average Queensland homes. This displaces more than 200,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year – the equivalent of taking about 45,000 cars off the road.
