ZEN Energy System’s innovative design provides a long term investment to reap rewards for Lake Breeze Winery. The specialist solar team at ZEN Energy designed and installed a 30kW (156 panels) system on the roof of the tank storage shed at Lake Breeze Winery, enabling 100% of the cellar door’s power to be offset.
About the project
Lake Breeze Wines is owned and operated by the Follett family who have been grape growers since the 1880’s and established the winery in 1987.
The family business has enjoyed significant success over the years and rightfully claim to be one of the most awarded boutique wineries in the country. Lake Breeze Winery sells around 20,000 cases of wine a year and had annual electricity bills ranging between $20,000 to $25,000.
The Follett family’s investment in a solar system was made independently of any government funding and was a considerable undertaking in a very challenging business environment.
Lake Breeze Winery deemed the investment a priority especially in light of the impact of energy prices and carbon emissions on their future growth and export potential.
ZEN Energy Systems was awarded the project based on its price, design, proven track record of delivering large projects and stable business structure.
Designing the project
Lake Breeze Winery was seeking a solution that was reliable, low maintenance and generated a high yield of electricity from a small area.
The installation also needed to be aesthetically pleasing, as the system would be located on tank storage shed roof, which is visible from the cellar door. The Follett family wanted to promote the installation to cellar door visitors, demonstrating the winery’s reduced carbon footprint.
ZEN Energy Systems provided Lake Breeze Winery with a system that focused on ‘energy yield,’ an important measure of renewable energy and one which maximises the amount of CO2 that can be offset.
ZEN recommended 10000TL Tri Power inverters which have a proven track record of balancing frequency and harmonics across three phases in a way that enables a higher energy yield (through fewer losses) for the customer.
ZEN Energy Systems delivered the system on time and on budget, achieving the Follett family’s goal of offsetting 100% of the cellar door’s power requirements.
“ZEN were highly professional in their approach and consultation. They took the time to design a system which met with our winery requirements and to additionally cover the energy requirements of our Lake Breeze cellar door. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to other businesses looking for a reputable company to work with”
